Refreshing Mint Flavored Water

Serving Size: 1 cup

Total Servings: 8-10 cups

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh mint, rinsed and separated from the stem

  • Lime or lemon cut in long circular shape

  • 8 -10 cups water

  • Optional: Honey, sugar or other sweetener to taste

Preparation:  In a pitcher, combine water and fresh mint and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

For every 8 ounces, option to add 1-2 tablespoons of honey or sugar for a mildly sweet flavor.

Then add 2-4 thin slices of lime or lemon


Healing Turmeric Milk

Serving Size: 1 cup

Total Servings: 2 cups

Ingredients:

  • 16 ounces low fat milk or non-dairy milk (almond, oat, soy)

  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder 

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon powder

  • Optional: Honey, sugar or other sweetener to taste

 

Preparation:

Warm milk in a saucepan on low heat, continue stirring to avoid burning the milk. Add turmeric powder and cinnamon powder and stir until dissolved. Remove from heat and transfer to cup, then add honey, sugar or other sweetener to taste. Do not reheat anything that contains honey.  

Spiced Indian Tea

Serving Size: 4 cups

Ingredients: black tea (tea bags), ½ teaspoon ginger grated, ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder, pinch cinnamon powder; 2 cup milk (or non-dairy milk); brown sugar. 

Preparation: 

Bring 2 cups of water to boil, add grated ginger and spices.  Let simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.  Add 4 tea bags and stir for 1 minute then remove the tea bags and discard. Warm milk separately then stir into tea.  Add sugar or sugar sweetener to taste.  


GINGER TEA

Serving: 4-8

Ingredients: Fresh or ground ginger or ginger powder, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, lemon slice, honey to taste; Optional ingredients - fresh or ground turmeric as an alternative to ginger.

Preparation: Peel and chop or grate 1 tablespoon fresh ginger. If you do not have fresh ginger, then you can also use ginger powder as an excellent alternative. In a pot, bring 4-6 cups of water to boil. Once the water is boiling, add ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper. Allow this to simmer for 5 minutes on low heat, then turn the heat off and allow the water to cool down. Once the tea has cooled down, pour 4-6 ounces into a heat-safe cup. Squeeze 1 small slice of fresh lemon or lime and 1 tablespoon of honey.

Special notes: This tea is excellent even without adding a sweetener. Adding a little honey is especially soothing to your throat, however use sparingly if your managing conditions associated with high blood sugar. A word of caution - once honey is added to the tea, do not reheat on the stove or in the microwave. Try drinking this tea first thing in the morning as a clean way of breaking your fast!

apple CINNAMON tea

Serving Size 2-4 cups

Ingredients: 2 apples, 1/2 inch cinnamon, optional pinch of clove powder

Preparation: Clean and finely dice 2 apples of your choice. Peeling the apple is optional. In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to boil. Add the apples and cinnamon. Allow the apples to stew for 5 minutes or until soft, then turn the stove off. Strain and set the cooked apples aside. Stewed apples are an excellent breakfast side. Please see the breakfast tab for full stewed apple recipe. Once the water has cooled down, pour into heat-safe cup. Enjoy this delicious homemade apple tea as a great start to your morning. This is especially helpful if you would like to have something warm to drink that is soothing and comforting.

Fruit infused water

Serving: 8-12 ounces

Total Servings 4

Ingredients:

Pitcher

Filtered water

6-8 strawberries, diced

1/2 lemon cut into wedges

Topping: sprig of fresh mint

Preparation: Pour filtered water into pitcher. Place diced strawberries and lemon wedges in water pitcher and cover. Place pitcher in refrigerator and allow to infuse overnight. The next day morning, remove lemon wedges from the water and allow strawberries to remain. Pour over ice or directly into tall glass. Top with a sprig of fresh mint! Enjoy on a hot summer day!

hibiscus tea

Serving: 8-12 ounces

Total Serving 1

Ingredients/supplies:

Water bottle or mug

12 ounces of filtered water

1 hibiscus tea bag

Preparation:

Iced: Combine 12 ounces of water (at room temperature) with hibiscus teabag in refrigerator safe water bottle. Allow to remain at room temperature for at least 1 hour while tea bag is infusing into the water. Then remove the teabag and place the bottle in the refrigerator to cool. Pour over ice or directly into a tall glass on a hot day!

Hot: Boil water in kettle. Pour 8 ounces of boiling water into a heat-safe mug and insert teabag. Allow tea to infuse for 2-4 minutes, then remove the teabag. Enjoy on a cold day!
